Save the date!

The next meeting of the Presbytery & Synod will be held at Adelaide West Uniting Church from Thursday 3 to Saturday 5 November, 2016. More information will be made available closer to the meeting date.

 

Stop the Traffik India Trip – January, 2017

Stop the Traffik directors Fuzz and Carolyn Kitto will lead an educational trip to India from 8-19 January in 2017 to assist others in learning about human trafficking prevention. Participants will find out more about the situation facing 300 million Dalit groups who are most susceptible to slavery. The trip will also provide opportunities for people to explore the chaos and charm of Mumbai, and the tranquillity of the tea gardens in Assam. Find out more about the trip here. Annual SA Spiritual Care Seminar – Wednesday 7 September, 8.30am-1pm

Kate Swaffer will give the address at the annual seminar run by Spiritual Care Australia, the professional association for practitioners of chaplaincy, pastoral care and spiritual services. In her talk, titled “What the hell happened to my brain?”, Kate will draw on her own experiences as a recipient of care to provide critical insights into living with dementia. Kate is an author, an international expert on dementia, and is the co-founder, current chair and CEO of Dementia Alliance International. Called to Care Orientation Session - Sunday 28 August, 1.30-4.30pm

As part of the Pastoral Relations & Mission Planning team, Called to Care promotes and assists the Uniting Church SA community with relevant information about ensuring a safe physical, emotional and spiritual environment for everyone. Called to Care runs workshops and orientation sessions to assist congregations in these areas.

Key leaders and/or church council members need to be aware of the Safe Church policies and best practice. This orientation session provides an opportunity to strengthen the leadership and life of your congregation. The session will be held at Morialta Uniting Church (26 Church Street, Magill). Resources will be distributed on the day.

Disaster & Recovery Ministries training

As previously advised, National Disaster Recovery Officer Rev Dr Stephen Robinson will conduct another round of training for potential disaster and recovery ministry chaplains in SA. The training will take place at The Corner Uniting Church on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 September. Places are filling quickly! Upcoming events – fairs, quiz nights and more!

Uniting Church SA events are listed on the upcoming events list here rather than in the “News & notices”.

There are a huge number of fairs and family-friendly events happening this weekend! The coming week’s events include the Adelaide West Uniting Church Community Fair, a “Spring” Fair at Western Link Uniting Church in Findon, the Gawler Uniting Church Quiz Night, a bush dance at Bridgewater Uniting Church, Child Safe Environments Training in Echunga, the “cold plunge” event raising money for UnitingCare in Glenelg, a sacred choral music recital, a Called to Care Orientation workshop, and a singles’ event for Christians 35 and older.
