Mother’s Day Project

Adelaide West Uniting Church and Welcome to Australia are collecting “tokens of love” for mothers newly arrived in Australia this Mother’s Day (Sunday 8 May). They are seeking gifts (socks, soaps, chocolates, etc.), cards with positive messages, and donations to be used for small gifts. Items clearly labelled “Mother’s Day Project” can be delivered to:

c/- Ruth at Adelaide West Uniting Church, 312 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Brooklyn Park

or to

Megs Lamb c/- MCCSA, 63 Commercial Road, Salisbury

Please deliver items unwrapped; gift bags would be great.

Schools, churches or other organisations wishing to advertise this project can print out the flyer available here.

Photos of Maughan Church

The closing service for Maughan is on Sunday 15 May.   The service will include an audio/visual photo presentation of Maughan through its life. We have photos and film from the opening worship service, but have less depicting the church’s later life.

So we need your help to complete the picture.

If you have photos or film of Maughan Church from any period, please forward them to the committee organising the closing worship. Photos will then be scanned and the originals returned to you. Any notes about the date and people in the photos will be greatly appreciated.

Photos can be sent via email to Turn on Javascript! or via post to Uniting Communities, Maughan Photo Presentation, PO Box 2534, Adelaide SA 5000.

Any queries can be directed to Dr Deidre Palmer on 8236 4221 or at Turn on Javascript!

Workers' Memorial Day

On Workers' Memorial Day (Thursday 28 April), a service will be held commemorate lives lost to work-related death. The Uniting Church SA holds such services each year.

Attendees are invited to contribute a personal item or photograph for the memorial display at this ecumenical service. The service will also feature a candle-lighting ceremony, a symbolic release of doves, memorial balloons, and light refreshments.

This year’s service will take place at Pilgrim Uniting Church (12 Flinders Street, Adelaide) from 10am on Thursday 28 April.

For more information, please contact Voice of Industrial Death on 8524 6879 or Asbestos Diseases Society of SA on 8241 7297.

Calling for biscuits!

As you may know, a special part of the Kairos prison ministry program is “biscuit ministry”.  Up to 650 dozen (yes, you read it right) homemade biscuits and slices are taken into Mobilong Prison for each four-day course, where they are shared amongst guests, team and other prisoners. Receiving these homemade gifts is a really special part of the Kairos experience.

If you would like to be of this great ministry, the Kairos team would love your help in making biscuits or slices on or before Friday 22 April.

For information on the “dos and don’ts”, packing information, and how to get these homemade goodies to the Kairos team, please contact Leah Hopton via email at Turn on Javascript!
