2017 Christmas postcards & posters – deadline for orders extended

The deadline for ordering 2017 Christmas postcards and posters has been extended. Orders now close at 5pm on Friday 20 October.

This Uniting Church SA campaign helps our congregations and faith communities to communicate Christmas service and event details, to share an element of the Christmas story, and to raise awareness of the Uniting Church in the wider community. Postcards cost $44 (including GST) for 500 postcards or $82.50 (including GST) for 1,000 postcards. Posters (A3 size) are $22 (including GST) for 10 (minimum of 10).

Generating Intergenerational Worship Ideas resource

Wondering how to shape intergenerational worship? This is the resource for you!

It comprises tips and examples on creating intergenerational call to worship, music, prayer, Bible reading and take home ideas. Our hope is that people will embrace and apply intergenerational concepts in their worship services.

This resource is written in partnership across three Uniting Church Synods, including South Australia’s Intergenerational Team.

New resources from the Centre for Music, Liturgy and the Arts

The Centre for Music, Liturgy and the Arts has two new resources out now!

“How to Use Poetry in Worship” is for communities who want to incorporate poetry into worship, written by award-winning author and presenter Marianne Musgrove.

“Advent and Christmas Resources” are compiled from a broad network of worship leaders, songwriters, scriptwriters and poets for the festive season, including epiphany and New Year’s.

State Mission Fellowship

Every month, Uniting Church SA members gather for the State Mission Fellowship to hear from different speakers and join in conversation. These gatherings are supported and organised by the National and World Mission Support group as part of Adult Fellowship.

The next State Mission Fellowship will take place on Tuesday 24 October at Scots Church Adelaide. The speaker will be Marg de Boo from Kairos Outside. Morning tea starts at 10am, the meeting starts at 10.30am, and lunch ($5) is shared afterwards. Everyone is welcome to attend.

 

Upcoming Outback Links trip

Preparations are well underway for Frontier Services’ upcoming Spirits Raising Trip to the Gawler Ranges in SA, which will begin on Sunday 22 October. The purpose of this trip is simple, to provide much-needed, on the ground, practical and social support for those people living in remote conditions, as well as helping to improve their quality of life – even a small improvement to a property can make a big difference. People joining the trip will share stories on Frontier Services’ social media as they travel. More information about the trip is available on the Frontier Services website here.

 

National Christ and Creation e-seminar

Theology lecturers from across Australia will contribute to a national Uniting Church e-seminar connecting Christ and creation. The e-seminar will run on Monday 20 November at 11am (11.30am AEDT) and will include input from lecturers, including South Australian Rev Dr Vicky Balabanski, as well as interactive workshops. Church members are invited to join a hub at their local Uniting Church theological college or to organise a hub in their area or church. People may also participate as individuals from home. SA Council of Churches AGM

All are welcome to attend the South Australian Council of Churches’ Annual General Meeting titled “Walking Together: Conversations of the Heart”. The AGM will be held on Saturday 21 October, 9am - 1pm, at Happy Valley Church of Christ (179 Hub Drive, Aberfoyle Park).

Focal areas include:

  • Ecumenical Partnership in the Mission of Christ. The SA Council of Churches network is invited to consider: In what ways does your church act with other Christians on education, advocacy and fundraising to help alleviate poverty, oppression and injustice in Australia and overseas?
  • Launch of Ecumenical Lenten Resource for 2018: “A Lenten Pilgrimage to the Heart”.
  • Launch of Enhance Learning in Parishes: A Learning Community Approach for Church Congregations, written by John Littleton and published by MediaCom.

Presbytery & Synod meeting – Intention to Attend

On Monday 9 October, the Uniting Church SA Secretariat team emailed online invitations to the upcoming Presbytery and Synod meeting, which will be held at Adelaide West Uniting Church from 23-25 November. In this email, members and elected congregation/faith community representatives were asked to register their Intention to Attend.

Secretariat are utilising a new, online event management system and have been experiencing some technical difficulties with the set-up. The system is now working, but if you continue to experience any difficulties, please email Turn on Javascript! or phone 8236 4200.

All general meeting information and reports will be available for download from the Uniting Church SA website and the Yapp App. Please check regularly for updates and notifications via the app (download the Yapp app from smart phone app stores, use the code “Y7XMVT” and select the documents tab to view papers).

 

Remembrance Service for Pregnancy & Infant Loss

October is the month when pregnancy and infant loss are acknowledged and remembered internationally. In recognition of this, a service of remembrance will be held at Flinders Private Hospital in the Level 6 Walkway on Sunday 29 October at 4pm. This will be a time to reflect and remember, to recognise loss, and to embrace love.

Regenerating Places of Faith Conference

The Regenerating Places of Faith Conference will be held on Monday 30 October at Clayton Wesley Uniting Church. The conference will explore how congregations can be strengthened by restoring and adapting historic church buildings for worship and as innovative places that enable communities to flourish.
