UnitingWomen 2018

Early bird registrations are now open for the 2018 UnitingWomen conference, which will be held in Brisbane from 27-30 September.

UnitingWomen is a biennial conference hosted by the Uniting Church in Australia with a focus on Christian women coming together in God’s name, and finding acceptance, encouragement and inspiration.

The theme of the 2018 conference is “Weaving Wisdom and Wonder”. The keynote speaker will be Eloise Wellings, a two-time Olympian who has been representing Australia in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Her running career has been motivated by her personal faith. Eloise is also the co-founder of Love Mercy, a foundation working to empower communities in Northern Uganda to overcome poverty. Other contributors include Lyn Diefenbach, Sarah Hands, and members of the Uniting Church.

Book launch: Understanding sexual abuse

Rev Prof Andrew Dutney will launch “Understanding sexual abuse: a guide for ministry leaders and survivors” written by Rev Tim Hein at a special launch event on Monday 30 April. The event will be held at Uniting College for Leadership & Theology from 4-5.30pm. Drinks and refreshments will be provided, and copies of the book will be available for purchase. Margaret Silf retreats and open conversations

Presented by Stillpoint and Loyola, Margaret Silf will speak on “Seeds of Hope in Troubled Times” at retreats and open conversations this month.

The first retreat will be held at Nunyara in Belair, starting on the evening of Friday 27 April and ending during the afternoon on Sunday 29 April. Day registrations are available for the open conversations on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 April from 10.30am-4.30pm.

The second retreat will be held at the Sevenhill Centre of Ignatian Spirituality from Monday 30 April to Wednesday 2 May.

Reminder: Ordination of Jesse Size

Jesse Size will be ordained on Saturday 12 May at Port Augusta Uniting Church at 2pm. Entertainment will be provided by Dusty Feet Mob.

 

Uniting Church participation in the SA History Festival

South Australia’s History Festival will be held throughout May 2018. The Uniting Church SA Historical Society will host an event on Sunday 29 April, 2.30-4pm, as part of the “Open Doors: Built Heritage Weekend”. This event will be held at Wesley Kent Town Uniting Church, hosted in conjunction with members of the Wesley congregation. It will include a tour of the building, information about the pipe organ and a talk from a local historian. Afternoon tea will be included. For more information, please email Turn on Javascript!

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2018

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be held from 13-20 May in 2018, and will focus on the theme: “Your Right Hand, O Lord, Glorious in Power” (Exodus 15:6). Resources are now available online here and are based on internationals material for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. They have been adapted for use in Australia by the Faith and Unity Commission of the National Council of Churches in Australia. 

 

Fearless Leaders Conference

Fearless Leaders aims to provide local, affordable access to high quality, Christ- centered, leadership and church-building content relevant to churches with any level of resource. The conference will be held at Burnside City Uniting Church from 18-19 May.

With a focus on practical strategies for ministry, leadership and church-building, Fearless Leaders provides an opportunity for ministry teams to network, learn and encourage each other in an environment of worship, prayer and teaching.

The keynote speaker for this year's event is Pastor Sam DiMauro, campus pastor of Hillsong’s flagship venue, Baulkham Hills. He will be joined by the Journey Uniting Church team and guests from other local churches around Adelaide.
