Below are the news and notices from congregations, the SA Synod and the wider Uniting Church submitted for the Wednesday 9 August edition of UC e-News.

Upcoming induction and ordination services – Josh Scherer & Linda Driver

Josh Scherer will be ordained as a Minister of the Word at a service on Sunday 13 August from 2pm at Journey Uniting Church, and inducted in a celebration service at Gawler Uniting Church on Tuesday 15 August at 7pm. A light supper with tea and coffee will follow the Gawler induction service. All are welcome to join in these celebrations.

An induction service for Rev Linda Driver will be held at Athelstone Uniting Church on Wednesday 30 August at 7.30pm. Rev Rob Williams will preach at the service. All are invited to attend.

 

SAYCO registrations now open

Team SAYCO are pleased to announce the opening of SAYCO registrations through the new online event system.

Each group that pre-registered has been sent a unique link for their participants to register. Each church has its own Group Coordinator who can be contacted to obtain the group’s unique code or to find out more about registration.

Group Coordinators who haven’t yet received the email with the code should email Team SAYCO at Turn on Javascript! or call 8236 4270.

The last day to register and purchase SAYCO merchandise is 7 Sept 2017. Registrations will fully close on 17 September 2017.

 

Engage Together - intergenerational worship ideas

“Engage Together” is a resource created to provide churches with intergenerational ideas for a call to worship, prayers, songs and Bible readings for worship services during August and September. Although based on the lectionary readings, these ideas can be adapted to suit any Bible/theme focus.

The resource was written and produced in partnership across three Uniting Church Synods, including the Uniting Church SA Intergen Team.

MediaCom: early order discounts

MediaCom is offering early order discounts on several items – “Seasons of the Spirit”, the foremost lectionary-based education and worship curriculum available; “Seasons Fusion”, which offers creative resources, liturgies, prayers and song suggestions plus activities for children, and “Seasons Encore”, age-graded packs for all ages. Frontier Services & the Aussie Farmers Foundation Rural Hero Grant

Frontier Services has made it to the final four in the Aussie Farmers Foundation Rural Hero Grant - and they're asking for Uniting Church members to help them win. The prize is an incredible $50,000 for Frontier Services to support people living in outback Australia who are doing it tough. You can make a difference in their lives.

To support Frontier Services in winning this grant, please watch the Outback Links video and vote for Entry #4 here.

The project with the most votes on Monday 14 August will be awarded the $50,000 Rural Hero Grant.

Some of the events coming up this week are Share the Cottage Kitchen Story in Port Adelaide, a fundraising event with the Creole Cowboyz at Church of the Trinity, One Tree Hill Uniting Church’s 150th anniversary celebrations, Grange Uniting Church’s 110th anniversary service, an ordination service for Josh Scherer, an ordination information session at Uniting College, Josh Scherer’s induction service, a mental health seminar on psychosis at The Corner Uniting Church, and a Positive Parenting session on communication at the Effective Living Centre.

About FACE update

About FACE Coordinator Jill Cooper-Ruzbacky announced that a decision had been made to defer the mid-year About FACE (Faith And Cultural Exchange) program. This decision was made in consultation with all the program partners – the Uniting Church Assembly, the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC/Congress), the Synod of Vic/Tas (the lead Synod for the 2017 program), and the applicants who had already applied for the program.

The new program will be held from 3-20 January 2018. Applications for the January program have been opened, and the About FACE website has been updated to include all of the new dates, forms, deadlines and information.

Applications open for Global Ecumenical Theological Institute in Tanzania

The Global Ecumenical Theological Institute (GETI) is an ecumenical theological education event, and is designed for approximately 120 advanced students in theology and related academic fields with an interest in gaining insights into the ecumenical movement’s current debates on understanding and practicing mission in various regions of the world.  GETI 2018 is engaging with the World Mission Conference’s theme “Moving in the Spirit: Called to Transforming Discipleship”The deadline for applications is 31 August 2017. Red Dove Cafe - seeking volunteers

Volunteers are needed to help at the Red Dove Cafe at the 2017 Royal Adelaide Show, cooking and serving food to raise funds for Christian mission projects in SA. Different shifts and timeslots are available during the Show (1-10 September) and prior to the start of the Show (30-31 August).
