Christmas Bowl 2017

Act for Peace’s 2017 Christmas Bowl appeal has raised $2 million dollars so far, and gifts are still coming in. The 171 South Australian churches that have already returned their gifts have alone raised almost $140,000, which is already making an incredible impact to the lives of people affected by conflict and disaster around the world.

Fearless Leaders Conference

Fearless Leaders aims to provide local, affordable access to high quality, Christ- centered, leadership and church-building content relevant to churches with any level of resource. The conference will be held at Burnside City Uniting Church from 18-19 May.

With a focus on practical strategies for ministry, leadership and church-building, Fearless Leaders provides an opportunity for ministry teams to network, learn and encourage each other in an environment of worship, prayer and teaching.

The keynote speaker for this year's event is Pastor Sam DiMauro, campus pastor of Hillsong’s flagship venue, Baulkham Hills. He will be joined by the Journey Uniting Church team and guests from other local churches around Adelaide.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2018

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be held from 13-20 May in 2018, and will focus on the theme: “Your Right Hand, O Lord, Glorious in Power” (Exodus 15:6). Resources are now available online here and are based on internationals material for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. They have been adapted for use in Australia by the Faith and Unity Commission of the National Council of Churches in Australia. 

 

Easter messages

Did you miss out on the Easter messages from Uniting Church SA Moderator Rev Sue Ellis and Uniting Church President Stuart McMillan last week? They’re still available to review online.

Uniting Church SA Moderator Rev Sue Ellis has shared an Easter message on the theme "Don't be fooled: be full of life." It is available to view and download online here.

An extended, written version of Sue's 2018 Easter message has been published online here.

Uniting Church President Stuart McMillan has also shared an Easter message. For this year's message, Stuart visited Karama Indonesian Uniting Church in his home town of Darwin to share a reconciliation story. The video is available to view and download online here using the password Easter2018!

Dernancourt Uniting celebrates 50 years

On 27 May, Dernancourt Uniting Church will celebrate 50 years of ministry, fellowship and outreach. Dernancourt Uniting Church was South Australia’s first new Uniting Church, and grew from a house church formed in 1968. A new church hall was built and completed in 1969 using voluntary labour.

Throughout the 50 years since its establishment, Dernancourt Uniting Church has provided many opportunities for the local community, such as a carers’ lunch (in association with UnitingCare Wesley Bowden), playgroups for grandparents, Messy Church for families, and recently a cooking program for older men.

SACC general meeting

The next general meeting of the South Australian Council of Churches (SACC) will take place on Saturday 28 April on the train between Adelaide-Gawler-Adelaide, with a brief stop in Gawler at Zion Lutheran Church, as below:

  • On arrival at Gawler Central at 10.17am, those attending will walk to Zion Lutheran Church, 22b Cowan Street.
  • After morning tea (on arrival), there will have time for prayer, brief exchange of stories and very brief
  • All leave Zion, in time to board 11.54am train to Adelaide.
