Uniting communities through the City-Bay

For more than 40 years, the City–Bay fun run has proven a fantastic way of bringing people together in Adelaide.

Last year, Uniting Communities’ Team UC members were among tens of thousands of people who took part in the event. More than 70 participants walked, jogged and ran various distances from the city to Glenelg, and the team raised nearly $4,000 to support the vital work of Lifeline Adelaide.

On Saturday 20 September this year, Uniting Communities is again taking part to support Lifeline Adelaide to save lives. Members of the Uniting Church SA Synod office will also be joining Team UC to raise money for this worthy cause.

Nicole Hendry, a Lifeline Adelaide volunteer explains why the service plays such an important role in suicide prevention:

“A crisis will happen to everyone at some time in their lives, and many people in crisis or distress have a real need to be truly heard.

“At Lifeline we ‘sit in the mud’ with the person by listening to their pain, and this process of being validated, heard, and supported non-judgementally can bring about a shift in their perspective and potential change for the future.”

This year, Team UC’s goal is to raise enough to train two volunteers for Lifeline Adelaide.

The City–Bay is also a great place to get together with friends, family and others in the community. After last year’s event, the team celebrated with a breakfast at the finish line, where they shared stories and experiences.

Everyone is welcome to join Team UC, and Uniting Communities would like to invite Uniting Church members to be part of the most colourful team at the City–Bay. The team will supply race kits and t-shirts, in addition to breakfast at the finish line.

Joining Team UC is easy – just register through the Uniting Communities website. For more information you can also call the team on 8202 5658.

If you see Team UC at the City-Bay, stop by and say hello!
