About us: Faced with limited ministerial oversight and resources in 2007, the small and ageing congregation at Greenock Uniting Church made the bold decision to cease Sunday worship services and use the Church building for community outreach on weekdays instead. Through business sponsorship, community donations, grant funds and volunteer support, ‘Connections’ Coffee Shop opened in March 2008 and continues to offer radical hospitality and a quality low-cost menu every Wednesday and Friday 10.00am-3.00pm, as well as for community events and functions by appointment. ‘Connections’ is now staffed by a paid part-time coordinator, as well as close to 40 volunteers. It is also generously supported by unique community partnerships with local businesses and a secondary school. Part-proceeds from the venture support a ‘Community Donations’ Program. Greenock Uniting Church also offer a ‘Big Bikes, Little Bikes’ program for primary school aged children and their parents/carers on the first Sunday of each month, 4.00-5.00pm at the Greenock Centenary Park (excepting school holidays, and long weekends).
