Policy Statement
The Uniting Church SA recognises that it is a part of a wider Community and values the essential contribution made by Volunteers. The Volunteering Services Day is an initiative to enable the staff for one normal working day a year, the opportunity to volunteer their time at a Uniting Church charity, or another mutually agreed charity of their choice.

Policy
Uniting Church SA staff are encouraged to participate in a Volunteering Service Day each year. This initiative enables staff to contribute their time to a cause that they have an interest or passion for. It may also help to raise awareness and promote the Synod office team and UCLT in a wider manner throughout Uniting Church SA and wider community.
Detailed below are the Uniting Church Ministry Centres and Charitable Organisations where Volunteering under this policy can be undertaken. Please note that there will be new items and initiatives amended from time to time.
Staff will be paid at their normal salary for the Volunteering Service Day. Volunteering Service Day shall be undertaken in lieu of a normal working day (not out of working hours). Volunteering Service Days are non-accumulating.
Procedure
As staff choose a Ministry Centre or Charitable Organisation to undertake their Volunteering Service Day they should enquire with the designated Contact person. Mutually agreeable date(s) and activities or assistance to be volunteered, within the staff member’s skills and capacity, should be identified.
Staff may formally apply to participate in a Volunteering Service Day by completing a Leave Request form indicating in the category of Other Leave and include the details of the Ministry Centre or Charitable Organisation and key Contact where the volunteering service will be undertaken.
The Leave Request form will require Manager/supervisor approval (signature) before final arrangements can be confirmed with the Ministry Centre or Charitable Organisation. The approved Leave Request form is then to be forwarded to payroll administration for processing.
Please do not arrange a Volunteering Services Day prior to the leave request being approved.
Prior approval is required from Manager, Human Resources to undertake a Volunteering Service Day at a charitable organisation not listed above.

Responsibilities
UCSA policies remain applicable when the staff member participates in a Volunteering Service Day.
Staff shall report to and follow the direction of the designated contact at the Uniting Church Ministry Centre or Charitable Organisation whilst undertaking the Volunteering Service Day
