The program will include songs from Sir Hubert Parry’s magnificent Songs of Farewell; Orlando Gibbon’s choral setting of his madrigal The Silver Swan; and Charles Villiers Stanford’s wistful setting of Mary Coleridge's verse, The Bluebird, with its soprano solo soaring above the choir, painting the movement of the bird soaring then fading into the distance.
In addition, there will be charming French songs by Camille Saint-Saëns including Les fleurs et les arbres, a celebration of nature and art and Calme des nuits, a meditation on the stillness of the night and the love of quiet things as well as Olivier Messiaen’s only liturgical motet O sacrum convivium.
