Event details

Have you ever thought of yourself as a mentor? Many Christians offer friendship, support and guidance to others, especially younger and newer Christians.

People undertaking a Period of Discernment in the Uniting Church are required to have an intentional mentor who meets with them regularly. This formal type of mentoring is vital to develop leaders for the future and support leaders as they grow. A Period of Discernment mentor is a guide, friend and support to the person discerning future directions for ministry.

Uniting College is hosting a free Mentoring Training Day on Monday 29 May, beginning at 9.30am. The focus will be on the values that underpin the mentoring process, along with addressing questions such as what it means to be a mentor, how to become one, and what to do when you are one.

A choice of sessions, led by Sean Gilbert, Deidre Palmer, Amelia Koh-Butler, Tim Littleford and Judyth Roberts, will be presented as part of the day's training. These sessions will explore specific mentoring opportunities such as being a PoD mentor, the skills needed for youth mentoring and mentoring women, and a session on Theologically Reflective Discernment.
