Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees

Victoria Square

Grote Street, Adelaide

9 April 2017 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Event details

This year, the Uniting Church in South Australia will once again stand alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ in the annual Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees. The gathering will walk from Victoria Square to Parliament House to send a message of hope, solidarity and support for refugees - those already settled in Australian communities, and those seeking asylum in Australia.

This year's march has the motto: "More courage, less fear. Close the camps and bring them here."

An estimated 15,000 people attended the 2016 Palm Sunday Walk for Justice - it is hoped the 2017 gathering will be bigger still!

A group will be meeting from 1.30pm at Victoria Square to make placards on the day; cardboard and markers will be supplied.

Bring your family, friends, and workmates, as well as any banners and signs. All ages welcome.

Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees

Victoria Square to Parliament House

Victoria Square, Adelaide

9 April 2017 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Event details

The Walk for Justice for Refugees is a community event, supported by a number of organisations, churches (including the Uniting Church SA) and congregations.

Each year, tens of thousands of people around Australia gather for the Palm Sunday rally to highlight the injustices experienced by asylum seekers and refugees under current government policy.

A large and vibrant turn out for Palm Sunday 2017 will send a clear message that Australia must adopt an alternative approach to those fleeing persecution and war – an approach based on fairness, compassion and respect.
