Unley Walk and Talk: Changing Religious Landscape
Unley Uniting Church
187 Unley Road, Unley
19 March 2017 2:30pm - 4:00pm
Event details
This walking tour of historic Unley will begin at Unley Uniting Church and include visits to several sites including he first Methodist church (1851) in Arthur Street, the second on King William Road and the former Wesley College (now the site of The Lodge and Christ Church Wayville).
As a case study this session will invite reflection on the impact of social change on the life and witness of churches over 170 years. The walk will trace the history of Unley and note the street presence of churches, both past and present.
Our conversation with members of churches in the area will include afternoon tea and prompt questions about how leaders arrived at major decisions to relocate and begin again.
Leaders of other suburban congregations will be prompted to think about their own experience and develop some appreciation of the impact of social change in their own contexts.
The final stop on the walk will view Gillingham Hall, site of the former MLC and Way College.
